| —Kronos to his Servant | ||
Kronos is the primary antagonist in both Age of Mythology and The Titans, as well as in the Arena of the Gods game mode of Age of Mythology: Retold. He is the leader of the Titans who was imprisoned in Tartarus eons ago by the Olympian god Zeus. He seeks revenge on the Olympians and their followers and schemes to break free of Tartarus in order to wreak havoc on the mortal world.
In-game, Kronos' massive statistics (his 100 hit points per second regeneration, in particular) make him almost impossible to defeat. He has near-instant regeneration and can kill most units quickly with his close combat attacks. Units that are known to defeat him one-on-one include Osiris and Gaia (the latter is programmed to be able to beat him, as she has an attack bonus of 100 against him), although massive numbers of heroes, Ballistae, Fire Giants, and/or Vermilion Birds (in Tale of the Dragon) can defeat him as well (in fact, 100 Ballistae are capable of defeating any unit in the game except for Osiris).
Special ability[]
Divine Immunity (Passive): Cannot be targeted by enemy god powers
Note: Unlike the standard Titan, he lacks the Titanic Stature ability that would let him walk over water.

Biography[]
In Fall of the Trident, Kronos works behind the scenes by promising Poseidon power over all the other Olympians. Poseidon in turn uses the Cyclops hero Gargarensis to open the gates in Tartarus that are imprisoning Kronos. Arkantos manages to defeat Gargarensis and keep the gates safe, though Poseidon destroys Atlantis out of anger.
In The Titans, Kronos uses his servant to possess Krios, the leader of the Atlantean exiles. He then tricks Kastor into attacking the Greek states and their allies. Kastor eventually makes it to Mount Olympus and attacks it, weakening Zeus so that he can no longer hold control over the gates imprisoning the Titans. Kastor and his allies manage to defeat the lesser Titans but Kronos' manages to break through a gate hidden in the ruins of Atlantis.
Kastor plants the Seeds of Gaia to spawn Summoning Trees at the Gaia Pools, so that he can summon the goddess herself. Kronos manages to escape and tries to stop the Trees from summoning Gaia. However, he fails and Gaia is successfully summoned. The primordial Earth goddess throws Kronos back into Tartarus, whereafter she causes vegetation to sprout over the ruins of the broken gate and departs.
In Retold, he is also an antagonist in the showcase scenario Kronos' Escape and once again reprises his role as the main antagonist of the game mode Arena of the Gods, where he appears as a boss in the tenth scenario. Here, it is revealed that Kronos has invaded Kastor's dream and is scheming to free Loki in order to be able to bring about Ragnarok. He also reveals that he has imprisoned Freyr's Champion, who Kastor later frees in the tenth scenario. Throughout the scenario, Kronos periodically sends out waves of enemies from various pantheons to attack Kastor's forces before personally attacking them himself. However, he ultimately fails and is once again defeated by Kastor's forces, aided by Gaia.

Mythology[]
| โ | The youngest of the Titans, his name meant time. Kronos became king of the gods after he castrated his father, Oranos, with the help of his mother, Gaia, who wished to free her children whom Oranos had imprisoned. Kronos ruled over a time of prosperity known as the Golden Age. Kronos and his wife/sister Rheia produced six children, including Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades. Fearing a revolt similar to his own, Kronos attempted to swallow all of his children at their birth, but Zeus avoided that fate and ultimately freed his siblings and banished the Titans to Tartarus. Kronos will not ever cease trying to escape Tartarus and rule the surface world once again. |

Kronos speaks several lines in Arena of the Gods.
In the intro cutscene of scenario 5, alongside Kastor and Gaia:
Kronos: Ah, Kastor. Back in the waking world. The world of rot and ruin, of death and decay.
Kastor: What trickery is this? You are locked down in Erebus!
Kronos: I am the master of time. My manifestations are many. I wouldn't expect you to comprehend. Nor you, mother. Wasting your affections on this mortal, rather than your own son...
Gaia: I wish I had never borne you.
Kronos: Oh, you bore more than a hated son. You bore the end of all things. Have you heard of Ragnarok?
Kastor: I have. And I have also heard that its harbinger, Loki, is imprisoned much like yourself.
Kronos: Not for long, mortal. I will see to it that he is unbound. Even peace-loving Freyr cannot stop me. (Laughs) I have captured his Champion. Everything is in motion.
Gaia: You must find Freyr's Champion, before all is lost!
In the intro cutscene of scenario 10, alongside Gaia:
Kronos: You have been busy, haven't you Kastor? (Laughs) You even found Freyr's Champion. But your journey ends here.
Gaia: When mortals behave as you do, we call it hubris. You have gone too far, my son!
Kronos: Too late for lessons now, mother. This is the son you created, and this is his wrath!
During scenario 10, whenever he sends his forces to attack the player, and whenever a wave of his forces is defeated:
- Delay my triumph all you wish — I am well-used to waiting.
- You remind me of my son. I hate my son.
- Cling fast to your vain hopes — soon I shall swallow them whole.
- The scythe is remorseless.
- I was once king of the gods, and I shall be so again.
- Your time runs short, mortal.
Upon being defeated, he says: When I break free from Tartarus...
Trivia[]
- In mythology, Cronus is typically depicted as an old bearded man with a sickle, fitting his profile as a god of harvests. In the game, he is instead shown as a giant magma being with a monstrous appearance. This depiction was later used for the film Wrath of the Titans.
