Ironwood is a random map introduced in Age of Mythology: Retold. It is named after the Járnviðr forest in Norse mythology and based on maps like Michi in other games of the series. It is a land map with a line of woods separating the teams.
Overview[]

Non-allies are separated by a forest of moderate thickness which runs across the map. Players can safely boom in their part of the map, or try to get through the forest early to catch their booming opponent off guard. Rushing players will need to utilize god powers like Forest Fire, Underworld Passage, or Vortex, and may also have access to units like Rocs to get across the forest and attack their opponents. If not using these, players will eventually be able to slowly cut through the forest with their workers.
In King of the Hill games, the central Plenty Vault is likewise separated from players at the start by a wall of trees. Players with access to the aforementioned units and god powers will therefore have a distinct advantage, as there likely will not be enough time for other players to cut their way through before the victory timer expires.
Trivia[]
- Despite ostensibly being named after a forest in Norse mythology, the map has a similar appearance to Marsh, and contains distinctly African fauna, including Crocodiles and Hippopotamuses.
