History[]
“ | The Taixue, or Imperial Academy, was China's earliest official institution of higher learning, with origins reportedly dating back over 2,000 years to the Zhou dynasty. At the ancient Taixue, students were expected to study the philosophies of ancient sages and master the 'Six Arts,' which included calligraphy, mathematics, archery, and chariotry. Taixues persisted in China for over two millennia, producing not only artists, philosophers, and bureaucrats, but also many renowned strategists. "The emperor enters the Imperial Academy to seek guidance from the masters and learn the way." |
