Strategy[]
To maximize the benefits of the Imperial Academy throughout the game, it is critical to plan out how to build around to generate as many taxes as possible. Firstly, because it acts as a separate tax drop off-site and because the Town Center itself cannot generate any taxes, the Imperial Academy should be placed somewhere where its influence area does not overlap with the Town Center. In the early game, covering as many resource drop-off sites as possible should be prioritized to double the gold gained from depositing resources and researching the Feudal Age economy technologies, with the Mill and Lumber Camp being prioritized over the Mining Camp (based on desirability and number of available technologies). Early military production buildings should also be built within this area, and the Blacksmith can also be a good choice due to the number of available technologies, although its greater size will take up more influence area. On water maps, it can also be useful to build Docks within the influence area as well, since they will be the primary source of units created and contain many technologies as well.
In the late game, resource drop-off buildings should be deleted and the influence area should continue being filled out with fast-producing Military production buildings. For example, producing units like Spearmen, Zhuge Nu, or Fire Lancers from Barracks, Archery Ranges, and Stables, will generate much better tax returns than producing siege engines from Siege Workshops. Whenever possible, unit upgrades should also be researched at production buildings within the influence area.
