Allows you to support 100 population without the need for Houses or Town Centers (total population is not increased).
—In-game description

Immigrants is a technology in Age of Empires III that grants 100 population without the need to build additional Houses/Manor Houses, Longhouses, Villages, Shrines, Kancha Houses, or Torps, and causes all units to train 10% faster — excluding units which do not cost tangible resources (which instead only train 5% more quickly and includes Heavy Cannons, Tokala Soldiers, Skull Knights, Flying Crows, Travois, Warrior Priests, and Priestesses). It does not increase the maximum population limit.

The technology is researched at the Capitol by European civilizations and Mexicans or the Town Center upon reaching the Imperial Age for Native American and Asian civilizations. With the release of Knights of the Mediterranean, Immigrants' train time reduction was moved to a general bonus that all civilizations will receive upon reaching the Imperial Age, though researching the technology also activates the bonus for those with access to Immigrants in the Industrial Age.

Strategy[]

Immigrants can synergize extremely well with the Chinese "TEAM Provincial Administration" Home City Card; fewer Villages will be required prior to the Imperial Age, and then even fewer once Immigrants is researched.

Immigrants is far more useful to Native American and Asian civilizations than to Europeans, as it arrives early enough that the player might not yet have built all the Houses necessary. It is also useful on island maps such as Archipelago, where efficient land use is essential and buildings are vulnerable to offshore bombardment.

The Spanish can support almost their entire population with a single Town Center with the Colonial Estancias Home City Card and Immigrants, only being 30 population short. Furthermore, Colonial Estancias will negate the need for Immigrants altogether if the player has two Town Centers and six Houses or three Town Centers, even if they lose all other Houses in an attack. This can be used to create chokepoints with Spanish houses, cause enemy runaround, or slow down attacking armies who believe they are damaging the Spanish player's population cap, and is especially effective against the AI.
