The Hunting Cabin is a unique building for the Rus in Age of Empires IV which replaces the Mill. It serves as a drop-off point for food and contains a variety of technologies that improve Food gather rates. It also generates gold based on the number of nearby trees and can produce Scouts.
Gameplay[]
- When built, the Hunting Cabin 'tags' all trees within a 5 tile radius, including ones that are already felled (depleted trees are not counted).
- Hunting Cabins generate a varying amount gold per tree; the larger the number of tagged trees, the less each additional tree contributes to the total gold generation, which is every 30 seconds. With a relatively normal 20-25 trees covered for a hunting cabin built on the edge of a circular forest, the gold generation rate is around 0.8-0.85 gold per tree per minute.
- The gold generation rate is increased +10%/+25%/+40% depending on the Bounty level.
- The amount of gold generated does not change if trees around the structure are cut down. It keeps the same value that was originally there when built.
- Trees can only be tagged by a single cabin. If they are located within two or more overlapping Hunting Cabin radii, they will be ignored by the second cabin.
- The maximum gold the player can produce is 300 per minute with no Bounty, and 420 per minute with tier 3 Bounty. The High Trade House does not contribute to the Hunting Cabin gold generation cap and also does not tag any trees within its radius.

- Originally, Hunting Cabins had a build time of 40 seconds. With update 7.0.5861, this was reduced to 25 seconds. With update 10.0.576, it is 35 seconds.
- Prior to the Season Five Update Hunting Cabins functioned differently.
- Hunting cabins similarly generated gold based on the amount of trees in their aura radius, but instead of 'claiming' trees, they suffered a penalty to gold income if the auras overlapped and simply did not generate any gold at all if placed within the aura of another Hunting Cabin.
- Gold generation was previously a fixed amount at a varying time interval based on accrued Bounty. After the patch, it generates a varying amount of gold in a fixed time interval based on accrued Bounty.
- The gold generation formula was linear based on the number of trees within the radius, meaning that it scaled extremely quickly on maps with a lot of trees. After the patch, it is logarithmic (diminishing returns)
- The High Trade House aura and generation were subject to the same penalties and limits as Hunting Cabins. After the update, it functions independently of any Hunting Cabins.
