Houyi was once a legendary archer: he famously shot nine of the ten suns out of the sky to help protect the Chinese people from drought and famine. However, after failing to assist the Yellow Emperor during Huang Zhaowu’s uprising, Houyi is forced to wander the lands as a recluse. He becomes jaded and arrogant, upset with how the gods have treated him.
Despite his hard exterior, there is still some good left in Houyi – it will just take the right circumstances to reveal his true potential.
Cangjie: Great archer Houyi! What are you doing captured?
Houyi: What does it matter? I may be the greatest archer, the most benevolent lord, and the perfect strategist…
Houyi: But I will die one day because the gods did not grant me immortality!
Houyi: And see Huang Zhaowu? He struts across China, ungrateful!
Cangjie: Get up, you fool! You are as a kite with its string cut! I come with Shennong's chosen, Yan Feifeng.
Cangjie: With your help, Houyi, we can finally end Huang Zhaowu's tyranny.
Houyi: Yet another favored by the gods?
Houyi: I will show you! You will never defeat Huang Zhaowu without me!
