The Knight Templar and Knight Hospitaller are recurring non-playable heavy melee cavalry units exclusive to the The Sultans Ascend campaign in Age of Empires IV: The Sultans Ascend. They appear in several scenarios in the armies of enemy Frankish crusaders and are often accompanied by their respective Grand Masters.
Both versions of the holy order knights share the exact same stats and are stronger variants of the Knight, with more hit points and attack than even an Elite Knight, but the same armor as a standard one. Depending on the particular scenario, their stats are further buffed by various technologies. They should only be engaged directly with large numbers of Spearmen, or with Crossbowmen plus a front line unit tanky melee unit such as Men-at-Arms or Lancers. Camel Riders are also good counters that can match their mobility.
Campaign appearances[]
- Several small groups of Knights Templar ride out to try and take control of capture points in Into Egypt.
- Knights Templar and Knights Hospitaller are part of several of the attacking enemy waves in The Horns of Hattin along with their Grand Masters.
- Groups of both Hospitaller and Templar Knights are part of the elite Headquarters guard in The Battle of Mansurah, but will abandon their posts if their respective Grand Masters are killed.
- Hospitaller Knights and Templar Knights form the center and left flank respectively of the third attacking wave in The Battle of Ayn Jalut.
- Both types of Knights attack the player in The Siege of Acre once the inner walls of the city have been breached.
