—Age of Empires IV description |
Haywire is a land random map in introduced in Age of Empires IV: The Sultans Ascend. Players start in close proximity to each other but have room to expand along the edges outside their initial confines.
Features[]
Players on this map start in a ring around the center closer together than on perhaps any other map save African Waters, surrounded by a ring of forest. Unlike other 'cage-match' style maps such as Mountain Clearing, however, on Haywire the area in between the players is almost completely open, and holes in the forest allow players to expand outwards on the map to find all the resources and map features. Outside the ring, players will find two Sacred Sites. which are typically on opposite sides of the map in 1 vs 1 but in closer proximity in team games, and most of the Relics. It is possible to find one or more Relics inside the ring. The two Trade Posts on the map spawn quite randomly compared to other maps. They usually spawn outside the ring, anywhere from the corners, to the edges, to the holes in the ring, but they can also spawn in the center of the map in between players.
Resources[]
Inside the ring of forest, players start with only one Large Gold Mine, one Small Stone Outcropping, one medium Berry Bush patch, one small Deer pack, and several small woodlines. All the rest of the resources will spawn evenly distributed around the outside of the ring. Haywire is unique in having no Boar spawns and having Deer spawn in packs of five, as opposed to seven or three. Only small 'straggler' Berry Bush patches appear outside the ring, and there are also no large stone or gold deposits, and nearly no additional wood in this area.
