Strategy[]

For players that prefer a fast expansion for gaining map control, want a Turtle strategy, or are playing on a naval map, the Hausa alliance is the best option. The Hausa alliance enables the player to train Kingdom Builders and Hausa Builders, which are wagons that can build most Hausa buildings.

If the player uses the Hausa alliance for advancing to the Commerce Age, they will receive a Hausa Builder and some wood. Hausa Builders can create Ports, Houses, Livestock Markets, Trading Posts, War Camps, or Watch towers (this last with the Arewa technology provided with this alliance). If the player uses the Hausa Builder for a War Camp, they may perform a rush in the Commerce Age. Otherwise, this first Hausa Builder may be used for a Port if playing on a naval map or for a Trading Post in order to take part of the trade route or a native settlement. The Kingdom Builders, on the other hand can be used for create Town Centers, Palaces, and Universities, making the Hausa alliance a great option when performing a booming strategy once the player reaches the Fortress Age.

The Hausa alliance ships wood in each age, which is useful for expanding the player's settlement with more buildings. This feature, and the fact that Hausa Builders can create Ports, make the Hausa alliance the best early option when playing on naval maps. The player should use the Hausa alliance in combination with the Akan alliance, because of the Akan Palm Oil Exports technology which exchanges all food for 50% wood and 50% coin, and the Akan Gold Economy technology that ships 1 Gold Prospector Wagon and makes villagers gather from mines 10% faster. The technologies provide gold and wood for warships. The British alliance will enable the player to create Frigates. The wood provided may also be useful for some Fulani Archers or some technologies that require wood. Probably the best build order of alliances in naval maps is Hausa alliance => Moroccans => Akan => British.

The Hausa alliance also makes it easier to generate influence thanks to their Bayajidda Epic technology, which ships 1 additional Emir, and buildings' build bounty is changed from experience to influence. However, this should be used with some caution, since it may delay Home City shipments, which may be circumvented by taking the trade route, which will be easier by picking this alliance.

The player should research Kano Chronicle first when picking the Hausa alliance, as this will improve Hausa shipments by making them give 1 Hausa Builder with every future Home City shipment. This technology synergizes with the main Hausa civilization bonus of receiving one Sanga cattle with each shipment, with the Argan Tree Planting technology provided by the Moroccan alliance which gives +1 Goat with every future Home City shipment, and with the Fulani Invasion Home City Card. With all of these improvements, the player will receive a Goat, a Sanga Cattle, a Fulani Archer, and a Hausa Builder with each shipment.

Recommended alliances[]

The Hausa is a supportive and balanced alliance that synergizes well with all other alliances. The best synergies the player can make are with the British, the Akan, and the Moroccans, as mentioned in the previous section.
