“ | Haudenosaunee warrior that hurls tomahawks into battle. | ” |
—In-game description |
The Haudenosaunee Tomahawk (Iroquois Tomahawk before the Definitive Edition) is a ranged heavy infantry native warrior in Age of Empires III that can be trained at a Trading Post built on an Haudenosaunee settlement.
After The WarChiefs, where the Haudenosaunee become a playable faction and replaced by the Huron as a minor native, the Haudenosaunee Tomahawk was succeeded by the Tomahawk, although they still can be rescued from certain treasures on American maps, such as New England.
Overview[]
Since the Haudenosaunee Tomahawk deals damage at range, they should maintain this range whenever possible behind the front lines.
This unit might at first seem similar to the Tomahawk, but it is different in certain aspects.
They cause hand damage in range. This, combined with their anti-cavalry bonus makes them an excellent unit to face cavalrymen, and as such, the unit has some similarities with the Revolutionary available to players who revolt. Both have decent speed, a ranged bonus against cavalry, but will be easily destroyed by Skirmisher units.

Trivia[]
- The Haudenosaunee Tomahawk deals hand damage at range similar to the Throwing Axeman in Age of Empires II, while the Tomahawk available to the playable Haudenosaunee civilization inflicts ranged damage.
- The Haudenosaunee Tomahawk is tagged as musket infantry, although he does not wield a musket.
- Additionally, the Haudenosaunee Tomahawk, Akan Ankobia, Maya Holcan Javelineer, Somali Issa Warrior, and the Yoruba Oyo Legionary are the only native warrior units that are tagged as musket infantry.
History[]
“ | The Tomahawk is a type of axe used by Native Americans. It has a wooden shaft and a stone, iron, or brass head. A popular version of the Tomahawk could double as a smoking pipe, blending together symbols of war and peace. Iroquois men traded furs for these ingenious pipe tomahawks. Very ornate versions of these tomahawks were given as gifts to Native American leaders and were fashionable to both carry and wield. | ” |
