Harald Hardrada (Harald Hardraade before the Definitive Edition) is an infantry hero in Age of Empires II: The Conquerors. He can be found in the Scenario Editor as well as some campaign scenarios. As a hero, he cannot be converted and can regenerate health.
He has the in-game appearance of an Elite Berserk, but throws axes at his targets, much like a Throwing Axeman, but 100% faster. The sound when he throws an axe is the same of a sword-wielding infantry, however. Also his accuracy, while only 30% according to the game files, is actually 100%, because the projectiles do not divert. He also moves much faster than regular Berserks, almost chasing the Knight.
Harald does not have any attack bonuses, not even 0, so he does not benefit from technologies like Arson and Chieftains, but he benefits from other types of infantry technologies.
Harald replaces Harold Haardraade in the game files. The latter was only available in The Age of Kings and represented the same person.

History[]
Harald Hardrada was the King of Norway from 1046 to 1066.
Trivia[]
- Hardraade means "stern counsel" or "hard ruler".
- Unlike in the Hastings scenario, Harald was actually killed at Stamford Bridge, marking the end of the Viking Age.
