In Age of Mythology: Retold - Immortal Pillars, Great Wall is a random map based on the real-world Great Wall which guarded the northern borders of China since Antiquity. Players from opposing teams are separated from each other by the Great Wall, a towering fortification that presents an obstacle to early attacks, thus giving players time to build up their own towns and defenses.

The defining feature of this map is the Great Wall itself, a colossal barrier controlled by Mother Nature that divides opposing teams from each other and prevents access to enemies until it can be bypassed. Players on the same team are not walled off from each other. If there are more than two teams, the walls meet at the middle at a large rocky plateau that cannot be built upon.
As the loading screen suggests, the neutral Great Wall makes gameplay effectively similar to the pre-Retold Treaty mode, as the colossal barrier makes reaching the opposing team's base impossible until effective siege weapons and flying units can be trained, or transportation god powers are invoked, later in the game. It is thus an ideal map for turtlers. Close to the walls, battles with ranged units can occur.
Even after the Great Wall is breached, the remaining segments, as well as the cliffs guarding much of the length of the barrier, make walling off choke points fairly easy. Major gods that perform well on this map are those with strong defensive advantages, such as Gaia, Nรผwa, Hades, Isis, and Freyr. Likewise, Ra and Isis grant access to Rocs (available through Sobek) that can fly over the Wall and drop off troops near an enemy's base to attack. Furthermore, Kronos and Oranos can use Helios' Vortex god power to bypass the Wall entirely, while Zeus and Hades can use the Underworld Passage god power granted by Apollo to transport both their own and allies' troops across the Wall.
