Great Hunt is a Norse Archaic Age god power in Age of Mythology that is available to worshipers of Odin. When invoked, it causes the amount of huntable animals in the target area to multiply. If targeted on an area without any valid animals, it spawns Elk instead.
Effect[]
Great Hunt multiplies the huntable animals in the target area of 10. The animals created generally contain the same amount of food as the original. However, to avoid problems with waste or rounding, Great Hunt can create larger animals that contain more food than the original (but no more than ×2). The total number of animals that can be created cannot exceed a certain amount of food, which depends on the Age in which it is invoked:
Note: The god power can also be used on Animals of Set of any player. The new spawned Animals of Set belong to Mother Nature and are hostile to every player.
If there are no animals to multiply in the Great Hunt's summoning area, Elk are created instead. Each Elk created contains 200 food. The total number of Elk that can be created cannot exceed a certain amount of food, which depends on the Age in which it is invoked:
Great Hunt multiplies the huntable or herdable animals in the target area of 10. Moreover, 75% animals in the targeted area multiply. Each animal created contains the same amount of food as the original. The maximum number of animals that can be created cannot exceed 750 food.

Relics[]
Hekate's Torches: -10% recharge cooldown and recast favor cost.
Strategy[]
Great Hunt is best used early in the game to gain a food-gathering advantage over opponents. As it increases the amount of herd animals as well, players may want to move all their herd animals near a pack of wild animals, increasing both their numbers.
Great Hunt only works once on any given animal, so if at least two allies both worship Odin, they will have to choose different herds to use their god power on. It works well with Poseidon's Lure power, so in a team game, it is best used once the Lure has attracted several wild animals to multiply the food for both players. It is also effective when used in tandem with Minakatatomi's Shrine of the Hunt, as it will increase the numbers of the Shrine of the Hunt's Deer, thus providing more food for the Japanese player and their allies.
Changelog[]
Age of Mythology[]
- Great Hunt affects huntable and herdable animals, with a 75% chance for each animal in the targeted area to be multiplied. When both huntables and herdables are present, the affected animals are chosen at random. The total amount that can be generated is 750 food worth of animals. If there are no animals present, the power has no effect.
Tale of the Dragon[]
- With patch 2.0, Great Hunt now has a 100% chance to multiply animals, ensuring they are always generated.
Retold[]
- Great Hunt only works on huntable animals (which excludes Chickens). If the power is targeted where there are no huntables, two/three/four/seven/eleven Elk will spawn in the Archaic/Classical/Heroic/Mythic/Wonder Ages respectively.
- When multiplying existing animals, it produces a maximum value of 800/1,000/1,200/2,100/3,500 food in the Archaic/Classical/Heroic/Mythic/Wonder Ages, respectively.
- With update 17.30764, Great Hunt multiplies to a maximum value of 600 food in the Archaic Age.
Immortal Pillars[]
- With update 18.27100, Elk spawn numbers reduced when used on an empty area due to increase in food stored in each Elk.
