Greased Axles is a technology in Age of Empires IV that can be researched at the Siege Workshop starting in the Castle Age. Once researched, it increases the movement speed of siege engines by 15%.
Civilization bonuses[]
Abbasid Dynasty: Research speeds are +15%/+20% faster while Golden Age tiers 2/3 are active. If Preservation of Knowledge has been researched, this technology costs -20%.- Ayyubids: Research speeds are 25% faster while Golden Age tier 2 is active
- Byzantines: Research speeds are 30% faster per water level at buildings within the influence of a Cistern with the Dialecticus ability active.
- Chinese and Zhu Xi's Legacy: The technology researches 150% faster when the Siege Workshop is supervised by an Imperial Official. For Zhu Xi's Legacy, this can be improved to 300% faster after researching Regional Inspection.
- Delhi Sultanate: The technology is free, but takes 5x as long to research (300 seconds instead of 60 seconds). The research time can be further decreased by 50% if a Scholar is garrisoned inside the Siege Workshop at which it is researched.
- French and Jeanne d'Arc: The technology researches 50% faster from the College of Artillery
- Japanese: Research speed is +150% faster when researched at a Siege Workshop with a Yorishiro garrisoned.
- House of Lancaster: This technology is 15% cheaper if King's College has been constructed.
- Malians: Technologies take less time to research based on how much gold has been obtained through trade.
- Mongols: Can research the improved version for an additional 500 stone to further increase speed by +10% (+25% total).
Changelog[]
- Originally, the effect of the technology was +20% (Improved +30%). With the Season One Update, it was reduced to +15% (Improved +20%). With update 15.1.6970, the Mongols' improved version effect was increased to +25% total.
- Originally, the Improved version cost 200 stone. With the Season One Update, it costs 500 stone.
Campaign version[]
Because the original four campaigns have not been rebalanced since the release of the game, Greased Axles has the following differences in those campaigns:
- It is researched at the Arsenal
- It costs 50 wood, 450 gold and increases the movement speed of siege engines by 30%
- The Mongol Improved Greased Axles improves the movement speed by an additional 15% (45% total)
