Strategy[]

Gonggong focuses on improving the player's hero and cavalry units. His Shaker of Heaven technology makes heroes have more hit points and deal extra damage against their main targets, myth units. Tempestuous Storm improves them further with a reduction to their training cost and special ability recharge time, allowing them to be more easily massed and to more easily take out enemy myth units. Last Stand allows cavalry units to gain more armor as they lose hit points, making them last longer in combat until they can retreat to be healed by a Sage. Last Stand also pairs well with Goumang's Hooves of the Wind technology, which further increases the hack armor of cavalry and boosts their speed.

Gonggong's myth unit, the Qinglong, is a flying azure dragon that soaks its enemies with water projectiles and can only be attacked by ranged units. Its special ability involves it triggering a watery explosion that damages all enemies in a decently sized area, making it useful for taking out groups of enemy units. Rising Tide boosts the attack speed of Qinglongs based on the total amount of damage they have dealt, making them even more dangerous.

His god power, Great Flood, sends forth a violent, fast-moving flood in the targeted direction that sweeps away enemy units and destroys buildings. When combined with Nüba's Drought god power, it has the potential to almost completely destroy an enemy base.

For Nüwa players, choosing Rushou in the Heroic Age and Gonggong in Mythic will make them better placed to deal with enemy myth units, as both their heroes and infantry will deal increased damage to them. Choosing Xuannü in the Classical Age will also provide a free cavalry unit for every five of the same type killed, which are made further effective by Gonggong's technology.

Mythology[]

Gonggong is the water god in Chinese mythology. He has a human's face, red hair, and a serpent's body. Zhurong, the god of fire, defeated him.

In mythology, Gonggong, humiliated by his defeat at Zhurong's hands, flew into a rage and smashed his head against Buzhou Mountain, one of the pillars supporting the sky. This act caused the sky to collapse and unleashed devastating floods across the land, leading to the renowned myth of Nüwa mending the heavens.

  • Rushou, Goumang, Gonggong, Zhurong, and Houtu represent the Five Phases, with Gonggong associated with Water (水).
  • Gonggong is the father of Houtu and, according to the Classic of Mountains and Seas, the son of Zhurong. He is also a descendant of Shennong.
