“ | Ranged Soldier, Hero. Good against myth units. Collects Relics. | ” |
—In-game description |
The Godi is a Norse ranged hero and ranged soldier in Age of Mythology: Retold, which is available at the Great Hall once the Heroic Age is reached. Godis are the ranged counterpart of Hersirs, and like Hersirs, they generate 0.01 favor per second and can collect Relics. Like other Norse foot soldiers, Godis can build and repair buildings.
Special ability[]
Sacred Hands (Passive): Can pick up Relics and deposit them at a Temple.
Divine Immunity (Passive): Cannot be targeted by enemy god powers.
Nature's Eyes (Passive, requires
Eyes in the Forest): Animals and natural objects within the unit's Line of Sight reveal their surroundings (30-tile radius) for 6 seconds.
Tactics[]
Godis are the Norse answer to ranged myth units, and especially to flying myth units. Being one of the only four non-naval Norse units to deal pierce damage, they can also fill the role of standard archers from other civilizations, but cannot be massed as easily due to their greater cost. In comparison to the Throwing Axeman, the Godi deals pierce damage rather than hack damage and is superior in almost any stat except for cost (they cost 30 more wood), population (Godis cost one more population slot), and hack armor.
As far as their anti-myth unit role is concerned, both Godis and Hersirs excel at fighting land units, although Godis are the only Norse human units other than Throwing Axemen who can fight flying units like the Stymphalian Bird, Nidhogg, Qinglong, and Phoenix. Since Godis deal pierce damage at range, they can easily stave off myth units from a distance, especially naval myth units like the Kraken, Leviathan, and Scylla who have to swim close to the shore to attack land units. A group of Godis can be sent to attack a naval myth unit that is busy fighting off enemy units at the shore and quickly kill it before it can cause massive damage. Godis are probably a Norse player's greatest asset when fighting a Titan, as Godis can simply keep their distance from the Titan and quickly rain spears on it while the player's melee units, such as the Berserks and Hersirs, wear down the Titan's health with melee attacks. Supporting the Godis with ranged myth units like the Troll (available to Forseti) and Fire Giant (available to Baldr and Hel) is also a viable method, as is using the Flaming Weapons god power granted by Bragi.

History[]
“ | The Norse Godi is a hero that can be trained in large numbers. Godis are strong against myth units, but not cost-effective against other types of human soldiers. Their ranged attack makes them better than Hersirs against ranged myth units, especially flying ones. Godi is a title that originally designated a Scandinavian magnate who also functioned as a priest, making him a political and religious leader. These men initially held immense influence but were gradually supplanted by kings, who combined political, military, and religious power. In Iceland, where no one king ruled until its acquisition by Norway in the 13th century, the station of Godi lived on for centuries, although it lost its religious power with the coming of Christianity around 1000 CE. |

Trivia[]
- Like Hersirs, Godis are assigned random names when trained.
- The Godi replaces the Bogsveigir from Tale of the Dragon while fulfilling the same role. The two units even have the same cost, with the only exception being that the Godi costs one more population spot.
