| —Age of Empires IV description | ||
The Ger is a unique building in Age of Empires IV available to the Mongols and Golden Horde. It replaces the Mill, Lumber Camp, and Mining Camp. It serves as a drop-off point for food, wood, and gold and contains technologies that improve the rate at which Villagers gather resources. The Mongols start the game with a packed Ger.
Tactics[]
Like all Mongol buildings, Gers have the ability to pack up and move to a different location. This gives the Mongols the luxury of not having to build additional drop-off buildings when moving to a new resource, although this is partially compensated for by Gers being more expensive. It is beneficial to build at least two Gers on woodlines, however, and regularly move the farther out one closer to the trees as the woodline is depleted. Using only a single Ger and moving it will cause Villagers to reroute their drop-off and waste a lot of time, since they cannot drop off their resources at packed Gers.
Since packed buildings can herd Sheep, and unpacked Gers have the ability to convert neutral Sheep, the starting Ger can be used to gather Sheep at the beginning of the game (albeit slowly). This is especially possible when the starting Town Center can be placed directly adjacent to both a woodline and a Gold Mine, removing the need to place the starting Ger next to the Gold Mine.
Golden Horde's Gers are unable to be packed or moved, but still perform all other functions. Their cost to build is reduced to compensate.

Changelog[]
- Originally, the Ger had a 5 second pack/unpack time. With update 7.0.5861, this was reduced to 1 second.
- Originally, the Ger had a Rally Point command despite not producing any units. This was removed with update 11.0.782.
Campaign version[]
Because the campaigns have not been rebalanced since the release of the game, Ger in The Mongol Empire have only 750 HP instead of 1,000. They are otherwise the same.
