| —Age of Empires IV description | ||
The Genoese Crossbowman is a unique light ranged infantry unit of the Knights Templar in Age of Empires IV: Knights of Cross and Rose. It is unlocked at the Archery Range after selecting the Republic of Genoa as the Commanderie ally in the Castle Age.
Tactics[]
The Genoese Crossbowman can be seen as a replacement for the Handcannoneer, which the Knights Templar lack. While they have lower damage, they are considerably cheaper, and available in the Castle Age. They fill the role of a generalized ranged unit with high damage that fares well against all kinds of targets, especially melee infantry.

Campaign unit[]
The Genoese Crossbowman is a non-playable light ranged infantry unit exclusive to the The Sultans Ascend campaign in Age of Empires IV: The Sultans Ascend.
The Genoese Crossbowman is an improved variation of the standard Crossbowman. They have more hit points and ranged armor, and they additionally benefit from Gambesons and Crossbow Stirrups, in addition to the standard Blacksmith technologies. They share their unit model with the Byzantine Castle Age Crossbowman. Their exact stats differ between the two scenarios in which they appear.
Campaign appearances[]
- It appears in the The Siege of Acre scenario as part of an attacking enemy Genoese fleet partway through the scenario that must be repelled to achieve victory.
- It appears manning the walls of the Genoese port on Cyprus in the The Invasion of Cyprus scenario, but does not have to be engaged from land.
Trivia[]
- The reason that the Genoese Crossbowman's statistics differ between scenarios is that in The Invasion of Cyprus, it uses its default base weapon stats, which are an improvement over the Elite Crossbowman's weapon stats. However, in The Siege of Acre, their weapon is overridden, whether accidentally or intentionally, by the generic Castle Age Crossbowman Incendiary Arrow weapon which gives them the incendiary effect.
- The Genoese Crossbowmen are missing their iconic pavise in this iteration. This may be an oversight, since they benefit from Arbalรฉtrier technologies, but do not get its 'Deploy Pavise' ability.
