The Genitour is a unique light ranged cavalry unit of the Knights Templar in Age of Empires IV: Knights of Cross and Rose. It is unlocked at the Archery Range after selecting the Kingdom of Castile as the Commanderie ally in the Castle Age. It is essentially a mounted Javelin Thrower.
Tactics[]
The Genitour is a very useful support unit for the Knights Templars, being specialized against ranged units. In many ways, they can be seen as an alternative to the Horseman. The vast majority of Knights Templar units are vulnerable to Crossbowmen and Handcannoneers, which Genitours counter easily. Genitours also counter all forms of ranged cavalry that can otherwise outpace the Knights Templars' slower units. Their cost is also very low for a cavalry unit, making them easy to mass.
Outside of their counter role, Genitours are very weak for ranged units, especially compared to other cavalry archers. Even standard Archers outpace them in damage, so they should be used primarily for their intended role. Even fully upgraded they do not fare well against infantry or Knights.
Genitours are not improved by Silk Bowstrings, but do benefit from Incendiary Arrows.

The Genitour is currently the only unit which does not have any dialogue lines at all.
Changelog[]
- Originally, the Genitour had 6 range. With patch 13.1.4420, it has 6.5 range.
- Originally, the Genitour had 100/120 hit points per upgrade level. With update 14.0.4963 , it has 105/125 hit points per upgrade level and a max Line of Sight of 10.5 tiles.
- Originally, the Genitour dealt 5/7 damage per upgrade level. With update 15.1.6970, they deal 6/8 damage per upgrade level.
