This article is about the unit in various games. For the campaign in Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings, see Genghis Khan.
You men! You will visit each of the outlying tribes. You must convince as many as you can to join our glorious army. But beware the Kara-Khitai. They are without honor.

Genghis Khan is a hero unit in Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings and a leader in Age of Empires IV.

AoE2-DLCicon-0 Age of Empires II[]

Genghis Khan is a mounted archer hero available only in the Scenario Editor and the Crucible scenario of his campaign, where he cannot be controlled by the player. Genghis Khan is portrayed as a Mangudai, albeit with higher armor, attack and health. He is one of the strongest heroes in the game. As a hero, he cannot be converted and can regenerate health (since The Conquerors).

Age of Empires IV description

Genghis Khan is a light ranged cavalry leader in the The Mongol Empire campaign in Age of Empires IV. He appears as a playable unit in two scenarios of the Shock and Awe chapter. His damage is comparable to a Mangudai, but his much longer range, high hit points, and extremely fast hit point regeneration make him useful for drawing enemy archer fire while luring enemy Spearmen towards the army to be picked off. Unlike other archer units in the campaigns, he does not do fire damage vs buildings, but can use his Raiding Arrow ability to significantly improve the damage of other archer units and destroy buildings faster.

  • Signal Arrows (Active): Genghis Khan can fire three types of Signal Arrows, which boost nearby units (including himself) in a six-tile radius:
    • AoE4 ManeuverArrow Charge Arrow: Fires a Signal Arrow that increases the armor of nearby units by 3 and boosts their speed for 15 seconds.
    • AoE4 AttackSpeedArrow Raiding Arrow (requires Feudal Age): Fires a Signal Arrow that makes buildings catch fire faster and increases the attack speed of nearby ranged units by 50% for 15 seconds.
    • AoE4 DefenseArrow Defense Arrow (requires Castle Age): Fires a Signal Arrow that increases the armor of nearby units by 3 for 15 seconds.
  • AoE4 HealEnhancement Fortitude (Passive): Heals while out of combat.

Campaign appearances[]

The Mongol Empire

Genghis Khan, also spelled Chinggis Khaan (c. 1162 – August 18, 1227), was the founder of the Mongol Empire, which was the largest in the Middle Ages and of all time up until that point. The conquests of Genghis Khan and his son Ogedei form the basis of the Mongol campaign in Age of Empires II.

Genghis Khan is a title of uncertain etymology. Proposals include "Ocean-like / Wide spreading ruler" and "Upright Ruler". Genghis Khan's birth name, Temujin, is Mongolian for Blacksmith - or more literally, "iron worker" (Proto-Turkic *temü(r)) + Mongolic occupational derivational suffix -cin.
