A Gazelle (Alpha) (named Gazelle King before the Definitive Edition) is a four-legged deer-like animal introduced in Age of Empires: The Rise of Rome as a food source. Alpha Gazelles are a stronger version of a Gazelle and also bear more food. They often appear in groups of five or more and run away extremely fast when attacked or even if a unit moves within its Line of Sight, which is slightly larger than that of a Villager.
Like all creatures in Age of Empires, the amount of harvestable meat on a killed Alpha Gazelle diminishes as time passes so it is best to use multiple Villagers to gather from each cadaver. Alpha Gazelles are available in the Scenario Editor as well as present in certain campaigns. They can be summoned in ordinary games when the cheat code "GRANTLINKSPENCE" is typed into the chat box.
