Gambesons is a unique technology in Age of Empires IV available to the French and Jeanne d'Arc that can be researched at the Archery Range or Royal Institute (for -30% cost) starting in the Castle Age. Once researched, it increases the melee armor of Arbalétriers by 5.
Gambesons is also granted for free to Mercenary Arbalétriers for the Byzantines when they advance to the Imperial Age with the Foreign Engineering Company.
Campaign version[]
Because the original four campaigns have not been rebalanced since the release of the game, in The Hundred Years War, Gambesons has different stats. It costs 50 food, 425 gold, increases melee armor only by +2, and is researched at the Keep or Red Palace.
