The Galleass is a unique military ship in Age of Empires IV trained at the Dock starting in the Castle Age. It is available to the French and their variant civilization, Jeanne d'Arc.
Tactics[]
The Galleass is somewhat of a jack-of-all-trades ship in the Castle Age, but suffers from not standing out from other ships in any particular role and also being prohibitively expensive. At 660 resources, it is the second most expensive ship and costs almost as much as two War Cogs. While it is stated to be an 'anti-structure specialist', its attack deals ranged damage, meaning that almost 40% of it gets reduced by a building's ranged armor. It also deals significantly less damage vs buildings than two War Cogs, especially if the latter are upgraded. While it outranges War Cogs by 1 (after Springald Crews), it still cannot outrange Keeps, making them only useful for taking out unguarded buildings on the shore. In the Imperial Age, it gets outclassed by the Carrack in range, attack, and even cost, making it a ship currently in search of a role to fill.
The Galleass fires a forward-facing single-shot cannon that has a 0.375-tile Area of Effect, with damage scaling down to 40% and 20% of its maximum towards the edge. It cannot fire while moving.
