Gaia is a non-playable team on Age of Empires and Age of Empires II, to which all the natural environment units you find around the map belong. The Age of Mythology equivalent to Gaia is Mother Nature. In the Age Of Mythology: The Titans expansion, Gaia is an Atlantean god.

Human Units

If a human unit, sheep or horse is placed under GAIA's control in Create Scenario, it will become the possession of a human player's team should one of his/her units come across it. This is a common method used in campaigns, and can sometimes be used to place secret units on a map, obtainable through exploration.

Mythology

In Greek myth, Gaia is mother of the Titans Oranos (whom she marries and has) Okeanus, Rhea, Kronos, Hyperion and Theia.

She is grandmother of Zeus, Hades, Poseidon and Hera (through Kronos and Rhea), of Helios (through Hyperion and Theia), Leto (through Coeus and Phoebe, not in game), Atlas and Prometheus (through Iapetus, not in game), Aphrodite (Zeus and Dione, not in game) and Athena (through Zeus and Metis, not in game).

She is great-grandmother of Hekate (through Perses and Asteria, not in game), Artemis and Apollo (through Leto and Zeus), Hephaestus and Ares (Zeus and Hera), Athena (above), Aphrodite (above), Hermes (Zeus and Maia, not in game) and Dionysus (Zeus and Thyone, not in game).

God Powers (Age of Mythology)

Gaia starts out with the god power Gaia's Forest, which makes a berch tree forest where ever the user uses the power.

Classical Age

  • If the god Leto is picked the user gets the god power Spider Lair, which makes spider eggs that if not attacked before hatching unleash spiders.
  • If the god Oceanus is picke the user gets the god power of Carnivora, which makes a man eating plant which looks like a giant Venus fly trap.

Heroic Age

  • If the god Rehia is picked the user gets the god power Traitor, which turns enemy soldiers to your side permenantly if you target the god power on them
  • If the god Theia is chosen the user gets the god power Hesperides, which creates units called dryads that cost 150 gold, but enemies can take controll of the tree simply by walking up to it if you have no units near it.

Mythic Age

  • If the god Atlas is chosen the user gets the god power implode, which sucks everything in its range into a ball which inturn spits everything back out causing damage\
  • If the god Hekate is chosen the user gets the god power Tartarian gate, which rapidly creats tartarian spawns untill the gate is destroyed, the tartarian spawns attack everything around them whether they are your units or your enemies.
