—Age of Empires IV description |
French Pass is a random map in Age of Empires IV featuring two large mountain ranges in between which lies a bounty of gold.
Features[]
This map is a relatively closed map characterized by a central valley surrounded by mountains. The mountains always run parallel to the northwest and southeast edges of the map and cover approximately half the map. Teams spawn behind the mountains along these map edges, and on opposite ends in 1 vs 1. Entrances to the valley are located on each side, and rarely, a path can spawn across the mountains. There are two Sacred Sites located at the entrances of the valley and four Trade Posts, one in each corner of the map. Relic spawns are standard and can be anywhere on the map.
Resources[]
The primary resource feature of this map is the valley which contains all the large Gold Veins on the map, 7-10 in total (regardless of team size). The only other gold on the map is the two Small Gold Mines that spawn in close proximity to each player's starting Town Center. Food is stock standard in every resource. Berry Bushes always spawn outside the valley (usually closer to the players), Deer packs prefer to spawn around the perimeter of the map but can also spawn in the valley, and Boars spawn around the midline of the map between teams, close to the valley entrances but also in the valley especially on larger team sizes. Stone also typically spawns along the edge of the map, but the valley can also hold a few Small Outcroppings. This map is rich in large circular woodlines, including two in close proximity to each player, and also has patches of Stealth Forest.
Strategy[]
This section needs expansion. You can help by adding to it. |
French Pass is a map that tends to discourage early aggression, since the mountains blocks direct paths to the opponents and can be closed off with walls relatively easily.
