Frederick Barbarossa is an infantry hero in Age of Empires II HD: The Forgotten. As he was only introduced in The Forgotten, he never appears in his The Age of Kings campaign, Barbarossa, even in the Definitive Edition. He is depicted as an Elite Teutonic Knight with better stats and is only available in the Scenario Editor. As a hero, he cannot be converted and can regenerate health.

Thoros II[]
- Caught in the Crossfire: Simon de Raban is a renamed Frederick Barbarossa. Escorting him to a Transport Ship set for France will make him give control of his fortress to Thoros II.
Victors and Vanquished[]
- Robert: Arnulf of Flanders rules over Flanders and is a renamed Frederick Barbarossa. His favor can be gained by killing Norse soldiers.
