Four Lakes is a random map in Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition and Age of Empires IV.
An ordinary land at first sight, with four serene lakes resting in the corners of the map, it rapidly breaks into a race for control of the much-coveted waters, for they hold the greatest abundance of fish.
Age of Empires II[]
Description[]
Four Lakes is a relatively simplistic random map. The map is very open with patches of trees, and features Goats as the main herdable animal near the Town Centers. As the map's name would imply, there are four lakes that take up the four corners of the map. This is the only place where bodies of water are found on this map. The corner lakes are filled with fish, providing a very high amount of food for Fishing Ships. It has the in-game map tags of "Land" and "Open".
Strategy[]
Many of the strategies that apply on other open maps, such as rushes, also apply here. However, the addition of the namesake lakes allows certain civilizations to fare better than otherwise. The Japanese are the best example of this, since they have a bonus that improves the work rate of their Fishing Ships. That being said, civilizations that perform badly on open maps, such as the Italians, still don't perform well on Four Lakes, even with their relevant fishing-related bonuses.
