The Fortress Age is the third Age (after the Colonial Age) in Age of Empires III. It is characterized by the beginning of fortification in the civilization's colony, the beginning of Artillery, and the improvements of the economy. Many more military units are available in the Fortress Age including the Falconet. To advance to the Fortress Age, a player needs to have 1200 food and 1000 coin.

- Arsenal (can be accessed in the Colonial Age after selecting the required card.)
- Fort - All Infantry, Cavalry, and Artillery, except artillery pieces (Mortar, Falconet, Culverin and Heavy Cannon) units are available.
- Plantation (can be accessed in the Discovery Age after selecting the required card.)
The Fortress Age is followed by the Industrial Age.
