This article is about the technology in Chronicles. For other uses, see Fortified Outpost.

Upgrade this Outpost to a Fortified Outpost, which fires arrows and makes nearby units move 20% faster.
—Upgrade description

The Fortified Outpost is a unique tower in Chronicles: Alexander the Great, available to the Macedonians and their allies. It is created by individually upgrading the Outpost.

Ability[]

The player's units within aura radius 10 of a Fortified Outpost move 20% faster.

Allied units, other than the player's, are not affected.

Tactics[]

Economic[]

The Fortified Outpost is the closest thing the Macedonians have to an economy bonus. The speed boost granted by its aura also affects Villagers, for whom it is double the Berber speed bonus from the Feudal Age onwards. As such, farmers move +20% faster, translating to approximately +10% faster farming before Hand Cart. The Georgians get a general work rate bonus due to their Fortified Churches. The Fortified Outpost bonus comes in very early in the game, and is much cheaper (75 wood, 5 stone compared to 200 wood), and is much easier to place anywhere (1x1 building compared to 3x3 building). The two bonuses are very different, but as a special case of farming, there is a huge overlap. The other Villager tasks, such as lumberjacks and miners, also get a small benefit, around 5%. However, for them, the main benefit is escaping from a raid even faster. Villagers without Wheelbarrow, but under the Fortified Outpost's aura, move just as fast as an aggressive Wild Boar, a Maceman, and a Bowman.

Military[]

In addition to the standard functions of an Outpost, the Fortified Outpost greatly increases the mobility of Macedonian military units, allowing them to rapidly redeploy from one part of a map to another. The Ends of the World technology further increases their usefulness by allowing them to act as easily-produced healing stations.
