Fort Duquesne is the fifth Historical Battle in Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition.

Summary[]

Age3zhb4
At the beginning of the French and Indian War, the French had set their sights on an important British border fort near present-day Pittsburgh. Their goal was to seize it. Time was short, however, as the shrewd British commander George Washington would likely send his forces to retake the site once he heard of its fall.

Starting conditions[]

Objectives[]

Primary objectives[]

  • Capture the British fort by defeating the garrison defending it.
  • Defend the fortress against the British.

Secondary objectives[]

  • Liberate the Shawnee from the British occupying forces.
  • Liberate the Lenni Lenape from the British occupying forces.
  • Liberate the Seneca from the British occupying forces.

Players[]

Allies[]

Enemies[]

  • George Washington (British Troops before the an update[When?]) (Flag BritishDE British): The enemy begins in the fortified zone with 32 Veteran Musketeers, 4 Veteran Hussars, and 6 Highlanders, two Barracks, two Stables, one Command Post, one Artillery Foundry, one Arsenal, one Church, and a few Tents. Once the fort is lost, the enemy starts attacking the player for 20 minutes with waves of Musketeers, Hussars and Falconets to destroy the Command Post.

Strategy[]

This section needs expansion. You can help by adding to it.

Move north with the starting army and defeat all British patrols. Do not attack the Fort's towers or other buildings, as they pass on to the player once the British troops inside are wiped out. Destroy the Fort's gate and move in, utilizing the Falconets to destroy the British Musketeers and small numbers of cavalry.

Once all the British troops inside are killed, the fort is captured, which also includes an economic base to the north. Train more workers and build up an economy, but also repair any damaged buildings in the fort and build more towers when possible. A timer of 20 minutes begins that the player must survive to win.

Wall off the riverbanks on the northern economic base, as the British will attempt to make troop landings there. If the player is quick to spot the transporting ships and garrisons the workers into the Town Center quickly, the ferries can be sunk before they make landfall.

The various Haudenosaunee tribes are to the west, southeast, and northeast. As the two on the east are closer, the player should liberate them first. Build walls and other defenses to obstruct British from easily assaulting the tribal villages. Once the player takes control of one, it is very beneficial to ensure that the tribal Town Centers remain standing, as they periodically train troops to fight the British as well as grant troops to the player. The tribes also send troops to follow the player's army and help in combating the British. If the player is unsure of being able to keep the villages alive, they can delay liberating the tribal villages until they are able to do so.

There are three British strongholds, one to the north which lies west of the Shawnee village, and two to the northwest and southwest, in close proximity to the Seneca village. Destroying the British strongholds is pointless, as the British armies always spawn in at their predetermined locations. The player must focus on defending their allies and their own base. They can use infantry and artillery to counter the British Musketeers and cannons. Once the player survives for the timer, the British retreat and the scenario is won.

Trivia[]

  • This is the only Historical Battle that takes place in the 18th century.
  • This Historical battle happens two years before the Ice campaign (1756).
  • The French captain refers to the titular fort as Fort Prince George, as that was the name of the uncompleted fort built by the British at the location. Duquesne would be the name of the fort erected by the French later, after seizing the area.
