Forestry is a technology in Age of Empires IV that can be researched at the Lumber Camp, Ger, and various landmarks starting in the Dark Age. Once researched, it doubles the rate at which Villagers chop down trees.
Utility[]
Without Forestry, it takes 4 swings (around 14 seconds) for a Villager to chop down a tree. When Forestry is researched, it takes 2 swings (around 7).
As a Villager collects Wood at a rate of 0.75 wood/s, and there is 150 wood on a tree, if travel time is excluded, it normally will take 214 seconds to finish a tree (0.7 wood/s), and 207 seconds with forestry (0.725 wood/s), which means it increases Villagers' gathering rate for Wood by only 3.6%. So the upgrade isn't worth getting to boost the economy.
Civilization bonuses[]
- Abbasid Dynasty: Research speeds are +15%/+20% faster while Golden Age tiers 2/3 are active. If Preservation of Knowledge has been researched, this technology costs -20%.
- Ayyubids: Research speeds are 25% faster while Golden Age tier 2 is active
- Byzantines: Research speeds are 30% faster per water level at buildings within the influence of a Cistern with the Dialecticus ability active.

- Mongols: Can research Improved technology for another 75 stone - Villager fell trees in a single chop.
