The Flag Bearer is a Scenario Editor unit in Age of Empires III.
When playing on the Unknown random map, it is possible that all players start with a Flag Bearer. The Flag Bearer, despite being tagged as a Heavy, Ranged Infantry and Gunpowder Trooper, has no attack (but is listed as having an attack of 0); this is likely so he may receive bonuses to those unit types, but when obtained this way, he cannot die or be targeted for attacks (though lower level AI will still attempt unsuccessfully to raid with him), so his hit points are moot. His unusually high movement speed (on par with a fully-loaded Trek Wagon) makes him a decent starting scout unit, especially since there is no risk of him dying when colliding with an enemy base or army.
The Flag Bearer has two commands, to "create an army with selected units" or disband said army.
Drummer[]
The Drummer can be seen in the Reunion cinematic of the Act II: Ice campaign.
When playing on Unknown, it is possible that all players start with a Drummer. Unlike the Unknown Flag Bearer, the Drummer can be targeted and killed like any normal unit.
Despite having the same name, this Drummer, a support unit that cannot attack but may be used for early scouting, is not to be confused with the House of Hanover native warrior Drummer, who can attack, has a build limit and population cost, and can be retrained. The Hanoverian Drummer's speed boosts are a passive aura, whereas the older version requires the use of its ability to temporarily enhance nearby troops.
Special abilities[]
Rally Army: Temporarily boosts movement speed of military units around the Drummer. Grants +10% speed to friendly units within a 20 radius for 17 seconds. Does not stack. 60 seconds cooldown.
