The Fixed Gun is a unique Maltese fortification that is available starting in the Fortress Age. While strong against buildings and most units, it has a minimum range that necessitates it being guarded, and is especially weak against anti-artillery units such as Culverins.
Some units (the Heavy Cannon, Great Bombard, Organ Gun, Rocket, Arrow Knight, Gatling Gun, Yabusame, Hand Mortar, Flamethrower, Siege Elephant, Huaraca, Sebastopol Mortar, and Papal Bombard) have hidden multipliers against the Fixed Gun, to adjust proper damage to the Fixed Gun since it is tagged as both building and artillery.
Special abilities[]
Long-range Bombardment Attack (available from the Industrial Age): Fires a well-placed shot to the target from a range of 60, doing 300 (4.0x against buildings, 2.5x against warships, 0.34x against Fixed Guns, and 0.0x against land military and land economy units) siege damage in an Area of Effect of 1. Cannot target land units. 60 seconds cooldown.
Deconstruct: Deconstructs this Fixed Gun to refund 90% of its resource cost (90 wood, 540 coin). Takes 30 seconds to complete.
Ships 5 Consulate Culverins; artillery get +10% hit points and -10% train time; Culverins get +20% hit points and -25% train time instead; costs 500 wood
"Engineering School" is available to the French, Ottomans, Portuguese, Russians, and Swedes.
"Lantakas" is available to the Dutch and Portuguese upon revolting to Indonesia.
"Knox's Continental Artillery" is available to the British, Dutch, French, Italians, and Swedes upon revolting to the United States.
Daimyo and Shogun Tokugawa get +5% speed, +10 Line of Sight and train units 15% faster; land military unit train time -20%, artillery and banner army train time -10% instead

As the early modern period brought more powerful weaponry and technology, innovations were made offensively as well as defensively. One such development was the use of fixed artillery pieces, which primarily had a defensive role. Although immobile, their strong firepower made them deadly against soldiers and ships alike - and, of course, to any buildings in the vicinity. However, their lack of mobility was also a crucial weakness; they were difficult, if not impossible to portage, and prone to capture if not properly defended.
