This article is about the unit introduced in Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition. For the unit in Age of Empires IV, see Fire Lancer (Age of Empires IV). For the unit in Age of Mythology: Tale of the Dragon, see Fire Lance.

Gunpowder Shock Infantry that fires a short ranged firearm before enganging in melee combat.
—In-game description

The Fire Lancer is an infantry unit in Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition, added with update 141935. It can be trained at the Barracks once the Castle Age is reached. It is a regional unit, available to the Chinese, Jurchens, Khitans, Koreans, and Vietnamese. It can be upgraded to the Elite Fire Lancer in the Imperial Age.

Ability[]

When fighting units (except siege weapons), Fire Lancers can shoot a volley of three projectiles with low accuracy in a range of 4 (thus being better vs groups of units). Each projectile deals 3 pierce attack (unaffected by armor[note 1]) and +2 vs rams. The ability recharges in 30 seconds.

Despite not being able to target siege weapons and buildings, the projectiles may hit them. Its armor-ignoring ability does not work against siege units, ships, and buildings, just like other armor-ignoring abilities.

Tactics[]

  • This is the only Barracks unit line to not cost food.

Notes[]

  1. The attack is pierce even when it is affected by armor. The armor-ignoring effect does not work against ships and siege cavalry, such as the Armored Elephant and Ballista Elephant, despite Fire Lancers being able to target them with their charge attack.
