Poseidon is a Greek Archaic Age major god who focuses on cavalry.

Attributes[]

Lure: Places a stone that draws animals towards the targeted location for Villagers to hunt.

Hippocampus: Naval myth unit scout that has no attack. If killed, a new one appears after 60 seconds at the player's oldest Dock.
Hetairoi: Cavalry with a large attack bonus against buildings.
Militia: Weak infantry unit that appears when a Poseidon player's building is destroyed.

Polyphemus (Mythic Age): Swings his mace to knock an enemy into the air, damaging it and others in its way.

Cavalry units cost 10% less.
Stables cost 15% less.
Market use costs only 10%.
When Poseidon's buildings are destroyed (but not when deleted), Militia emerge from the rubble. Militia are weak melee units, but the more expensive the structure, the more Militia are created.
Gains a Hippocampus at the Dock if the player also has a Temple. The Hippocampus has no attack, but is a good scout, and will respawn at a dock if killed.

With patch 2.7, The Argo is available in the Heroic Age rather than the Mythic Age.

The symbols most often associated with Poseidon were the trident and dolphin. Sailors relied upon him for favorable winds and safe voyages, but he was moody. Athena surpassed him, however, by creating the olive tree. He often used water and earthquakes to exact revenge, but could be cooperative as well. He greatly aided the Greeks in the Trojan War, but took years of revenge on Odysseus, who had harmed one of Poseidon's Cyclops offspring, Polyphemus.	”

According to the Age of Mythology handbook, Poseidon originally had an additional bonus that increased the movement speed of Fishing Ships and Caravans.
