The Heavy Pikeman in an untrainable infantry unit in Age of Empires II HD: The Forgotten. It has exactly the same stats as the regular Pikeman, with the lone exception of the hit points, of which the Heavy Pikeman has 20 more. It also has less attack bonus against Camel units, due to the attack bonus of Pikeman being increased in a later patch. Heavy Pikemen appear in several campaign scenarios and are available in the Scenario Editor.

Due to the Heavy Pikeman being effectively an upgraded Pikeman with more hit points, it can be considered a defensive counterpart to the Halberdier, which is more offensively oriented with higher attack and attack bonuses.

Campaign appearances

Heavy Pikemen appear in the following campaign scenarios.

Vlad Dracula

• The Dragon Spreads His Wings: In the HD Edition, a couple of Heavy Pikemen defend the gates to Edirne.
• The Return of the Dragon: The Danesti Forces have several Heavy Pikemen guarding their camp between Moldavia and Bran Castle. They escort the Danesti commander on his excursions.
• The Moon Rises: In the HD Edition, a contingent of Heavy Pikemen protects the Poenari Castle in the north.
• The Night Falls: Italian Mercenaries have a couple Heavy Pikemen in their camp.

Sforza

• An End and a Beginning: Some Heavy Pikemen are under the command of Captain Luigeusi. A couple Heavy Pikemen are also among the Raiders in the western Fortress.
• O Fortuna: Heavy Pikemen defend Milan and serve as Duke Visconti's personal bodyguards.

Francisco de Almeida

• The Old World: There are a few Heavy Pikemen in the Isabelistas' portion of Zamora. In the HD Edition, they are also present as Juanista troops inside Zamora.

Tamerlane

• A Titan Amongst Mortals: Heavy Pikemen are part of the Wallachian detachment of Ottoman Auxiliaries.

Algirdas and Kestutis

• In the Shadow of the Throne: The Teutonic Order have Heavy Pikemen throughout their town.

The Grand Dukes of the West

• The Cleansing of Paris: King Henry V's retinue includes several Heavy Pikemen.

Victors and Vanquished

• Charlemagne: A couple of Heavy Pikemen serve as bodyguards of the ruling Pope in Rome.
• Komnenos: Several Heavy Pikemen serve as City Guards and as the Emperor's bodyguards. Following the takeover of Constantinople by Alexios, they are dismissed.
• Stephen: A couple of Heavy Pikemen are under Stephen's command, next to the Tower of London. The pretender Henry FitzEmpress' invasion army from Normandy also has several regiments of Heavy Pikemen.

Trivia

• The weapon used by the heavy pikeman resembles a bill, a weapon widely used by England in the medieval period.
• Before the Definitive Edition, the Heavy Pikeman model was lifted from the Age of Chivalry: Hegemony mod, where it served for the Scaerwetter, a unique unit of Flanders. This unit was not actually armed with a pike but with a Goedendag, a club and pike hybrid. The weapon was reintroduced in Lords of the West as that of the Flemish Militia, one of two unique units of the Burgundians.
