—In-game description
The Field is an economic building in Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition - The African Royals that is unique to the African civilizations (Ethiopians and Hausa). It combines the functions of a Mill and an Estate by acting as an infinite source of food and coin, but not both; the Field must be configured to provide either resource at one time. Unlike its counterparts, the Field is very cheap, costing only 50 wood, but takes no less than 60 seconds to build and can only support up to 3 villagers.
The image for the field shows coffee berries, pearl millet and cowpea flowers.
History[]
“
Like in several other parts of the world, agriculture was a staple of societies in many regions in Africa. Crops can fundamentally be divided into two categories: alimentary and non-alimentary. The former, prime examples of which in Africa include teff and millet, were grown to be eaten. The latter saw primary use for material and commercial purposes, with examples such as indigo (for dye) and coffee (technically also a consumable, but with primarily commercial value).
