Extra Materials is a unique technology available to the Chinese in Age of Empires IV that can be researched at the Keep starting in the Castle Age. Once researched, Stone Wall Towers, Outposts, Keeps, the Barbican of the Sun, and the Great Wall Gatehouse will automatically repair damaged walls and gates (except the Great Wall Gatehouse) within a 4-tile radius. A single section is repaired at a time for 20 hit points per second.
The technology researches 150% faster when the Keep is supervised by an Imperial Official.

- Originally, Extra Materials stacked on single wall segments, and its repair range was 12.5 tiles. With patch 14681, it repairs all wall segments within range, no longer stacks on single wall segments, and its repair range is 4 tiles.
- With patch 11.1.1201, the Extra Materials aura is now emitted by Keeps, the Barbican of the Sun, and the Great Wall Gatehouse. It also targets all generic walls and gates instead of just Stone Walls.
