—Age of Empires IV description |
Enlightened Horizon is a land random map in Age of Empires IV: Knights of Cross and Rose. It is notable for its large amounts of Points of Interest
Features[]
Enlightened Horizon is a mostly open map in which all players are initially located on small clifftops overlooking a central valley. In 1 vs 1, players spawn very close together along the southeast edge of the map on opposite sides of the central axis of the map. They are only separated by small 90-degree angle cliffs, which can be relatively easily blocked off with walls to prevent the enemy player from coming straight across the center. Each subsequent player in team games spawns in a similar fashion incrementally towards the northwest edge of the map and slightly farther apart, creating a 'V' shape pointing towards the southeast edge in larger team games. At the tip of this V, in the very center of the southeast edge between the first two players spawns an Abandoned Outpost. Each player also spawns with their own nearby Merchant Camp. A single rock feature exists on the center axis between teams at the northwest side of the map, around which spawn all three Sacred Sites, one on each side, and a Lost Ronin camp on the side facing the players. In the north and west corners, there are raised plateaus separated by small cliffs, and next to each spawn one (2- and 4-player games) or two (6- and 8-player games) sets of Trade Posts and Wolf Dens. Relics are located primarily in the valley separating the players, but can also be located in the northwest section around the Sacred Sites.
Resources[]
Players start the game with two Tiny Gold Mines, two Small Stone Outcroppings, one large Deer Pack, two Medium Berry Bush patches, and two large circular woodlines in close proximity to their starting Town Center. Typically, only one of the gold mines, woodlines, and stone outcroppings will be within range of the Town Center, and unlike on most maps, both Berry Bush patches are outside its range. In 1 vs 1, the majority of the rest of the resources, including the Boars, Large and Small Gold Mines, large Berry Bush patches, Large Stone Outcroppings, and a smattering of small circular woodlines will all spawn fairly evenly distributed on the northwest half of the map. One Large Gold Mine (or two, in 3v3 and 4v4) will always be located on each of the plateaus in the north and west corners. Some of these resources can also spawn in between players. As more players are added in team games, the northwest 'resource' section gets compressed and more of the resources get pushed to the center axis of the map between the teams, while some of the resources also get squeezed to the northeast and southwest edges of the map, especially in the south and east corners, behind each team.
Changelog[]
- With Patch 13.1.4420, the starting Berry Bush patch was moved to be next to the starting Deer pack, outside the Town Center Range.
- Originally, the Trade Post was located in the center of southeast edge of the map in between teams. With patch 13.1.4420, this was replaced with an Abandoned Outpost.
- With patch 13.1.4420, a set of map elements consisting of a Wolf Den, Trade Post, and Large Gold mine was placed on each of the plateaus in the north and west corners of the map (or two sets in 3 vs 3 and 4 vs 4 games).
