Acts as a Keep with +50% health. All buildings within influence take -25% less damage.
Age of Empires IV description

The Elzbach Palace is a defensive landmark available to the Holy Roman Empire and the Order of the Dragon in Age of Empires IV in the Castle Age. It acts as an improved Keep with 50% extra hit points. All friendly buildings within its influence (including itself) take 25% less damage, and it increases the number of trainable Black Riders for the Holy Roman Empire.

Special ability[]

  • Elzbach Palace Influence (Influence): The Elzbach Palace generates a 20 x 20 tile influence area around it. All buildings within this influence, including the Palace itself, take 25% less damage. Other buildings extend the influence area by 1 tile around their footprint. This 20 x 20 tile influence can also be used to extend the Town Center Emergency Repairs influence area by a large amount.
  • The Elzbach Palace increases the number of Black Riders that can be trained by the Holy Roman Empire to 8 per keep (including itself) from the default 5 per keep.

Tactics[]

The Elzbach Palace can become a nearly indestructible bastion in the Imperial Age. With 25% less damage taken, cheaper Emplacements boosted by a garrisoned Relic, and Emergency Repairs, an unprepared opponent can spend significant time, units and resources trying to take down this landmark without making so much as a dent in its health. While it cannot cover as much area as the Berkshire Palace, or eliminate armies as fast as the Red Palace, it is certainly the hardest landmark to destroy. This, along with its large influence area which buffs building defenses, makes it extremely effective as a centerpiece of a forward military or economic base, shutting an opponent out of an area of the map. Nevertheless, a landmark's effectiveness is always judged relative to its counterpart, and the Palace of Swabia provides good competition. Just like any other Keep, the Elzbach Palace provides no defensive bonus if it can be avoided, and it has no inherent economic bonus. The Palace of Swabia, by comparison, provides a massive and immediate economic power spike in the Imperial Age and effectively negates the effects of enemy raids on Villagers. As such, the choice between the two landmarks typically boils down to how many Villagers the player already has when advancing to the Imperial Age, with the Elzbach Palace winning out when the player has been producing from 2 or more Town Centers for a while already and doesn't need many more Villagers.
