Like all the king animals from Age of Empires, the Elephant (Alpha) (named Elephant King before the Definitive Edition) is a more dangerous version of the regular, huntable creature. But unlike the Crocodile (Alpha), which is far more dangerous than the regular Alligator, the Elephant (Alpha) is only slightly better than the Elephant, with 15 more hit points, and +5 damage per hit (for a total of 15 rather than 10). Also, unlike the non-alpha version, these animals will attack any Villagers or military units that enter its Line of Sight, even when unprovoked. The alpha Elephant is almost as good a source of food as the Elephant. In the original game, the alpha Elephant has no attack animation; instead, it appears like the Villager simply dies with the animal watching.

The cheat code "GRANTLINKSPENCE" will turn all regular Elephants into Elephants (Alpha).
