History[]
Darius I, also known as Darius the Great, was one of the most influential kings of the Achaemenid Empire, reigning from 522 to 486 BC. He consolidated and expanded the empire, stretching it to its greatest extent from the Indus Valley to the Aegean Sea. Darius implemented significant administrative reforms, including the division of the empire into satrapies, standardizing coinage, and improving infrastructure, such as building the Royal Road. He is also remembered for his conflicts with the Greeks, notably his failed invasion of Greece, culminating in the Battle of Marathon in 490 BC. Darius's reign set the foundation for the empire's prosperity and influence.
