Damascus Steel is a technology in Age of Empires IV that can be researched at the Blacksmith starting in the Imperial Age. Once researched, it increases the melee damage of all non-siege units by 1.
Civilization bonuses[]
- Abbasid Dynasty: Research speeds are +15%/+20% faster while Golden Age tiers 2/3 are active. If Preservation of Knowledge has been researched, this technology costs -20%.
- Ayyubids: Research speeds are 25% faster while Golden Age tier 2 is active. The technology is granted for free when choosing the Master Smiths branch of the Military Wing to advance to the Imperial Age or as the fourth wing.
- Byzantines: Research speeds are 30% faster per water level at buildings within the influence of a Cistern with the Dialecticus ability active.
- Chinese and Zhu Xi's Legacy: The technology researches 150% faster when the Blacksmith is supervised by an Imperial Official.
- Delhi Sultanate: The technology is free, but takes 12x as long to research (720 seconds instead of 60 seconds).
- French: Blacksmiths grant Damascus Steel for free after reaching the Imperial Age.
- Holy Roman Empire and Order of the Dragon: The technology cost is reduced and research speed is increased by 50% if researched at the Meinwerk Palace.
- Malians: Technologies take less time to research based on how much gold has been obtained through trade.
Changelog[]
- Originally, the base research time for the Delhi Sultanate was 5x default (300 seconds). With update 8324, this was increased to 15x default (900 seconds). With Season Two Update 17718, it takes 12x as long (720 seconds).
- With patch 10.1.48, Jeanne d'Arc no longer gains this technology for free after reaching the Feudal Age.
Campaign version[]
Because the original four campaigns have not been rebalanced since the release of the game, Damascus Steel has different stats in those campaigns.
