The Daimyo is a melee hero cavalry in Age of Mythology: Retold - Heavenly Spear. Available to the Japanese at the Stable in the Heroic Age, the Daimyo has a longer reach than most most melee units, allowing for better engagements in mass brawls.

Tactics[]
Daimyos are powerful but expensive melee cavalry heroes. They are good versus ranged soldiers and especially dangerous against myth units. Having a speed of 5.5, Daimyos can easily catch up to most myth units, especially slow ones like the Oni, Taowu, and Colossus. Coupled with the fact Daimyos have a longer melee reach than most other melee units, this makes a group of Daimyos deadly against both ranged soldiers and myth units alike. However, as cavalry, Daimyos can be defeated by most infantry units, such as Berserks and Yari Spearmen. They are also vulnerable to counter-cavalry units like Prodromoi and Camel Riders. Given their high resource and population costs, Daimyos should be guarded carefully and healed regularly to avoid wasted resources.
Worshipping Hachiman in the Heroic Age grants two myth technologies that allow Daimyos to be trained faster and regenerate hit points over time, along with dealing more damage, especially against myth units. Furthermore, Hachiman's Shogun god power can be invoked on any Daimyo to convert him into a more powerful Shogun, who can summon Samurai while in combat.

History[]
| “ | Daimyos were powerful feudal lords who led bands of professional warriors. They were a level above the bushi and were at their most powerful from 1185-1868 CE. They not only controlled warriors but also served as powerful landholders over vast estates. Three of the most famous historical daimyōs are Oda Nobunaga (1534-1582 CE), Toyotomi Hideyoshi (1537-1598 CE), and Tokugawa Ieyasu (1543-1616 CE), who history remembers as the three unifiers of Japan. |
