The Dahomey Amazon can be considered the mercenary version of the Sudanese Dervish, with an extended attack range. As light infantry, it is strong against light cavalry and heavy infantry, and vulnerable against heavy cavalry and artillery.
It has 2 different range attack modes. In long-range, it uses a rifle to attack an enemy. In short-range, it uses a throwing knife instead, which deals hand damage and fires faster when enemies are close.

History[]
“
During the 17th century, the West African Kingdom of Dahomey formed an all-female military unit. These gbetos gradually rose in importance and were known for their combined use of firearms and throwing knives. An aberration to European observers, who termed them "Amazons" after the female warriors of classical Greek mythology, the gbetos remained a fixture in the Dahomey army until the kingdom's conquest by the French in the late 19th century.
”
Trivia[]
The Dahomey Amazon is the second female-only trainable unit (the first being the Priestess), and the first and (until then) only female military unit in Age of Empires III.
