Tatsuro has been kidnapped! The heroes follow their only lead---Abe-no-Seimei, a wise man who appears to have troubles of his own.
—Scenario description

Crossroads is the fourth scenario of the Yasuko's Tale campaign in Age of Mythology: Retold - Heavenly Spear.

Starting conditions[]

This section is most likely incomplete and may need expansion. You can help by adding to it.

Objectives[]

This section is most likely incomplete and may need expansion. You can help by adding to it.
  • Clear the village of Kappa. (Use Yasuko's new Sunbeam ability to defeat the Kappa attacking Abe-no-Seimei's village. Keep an eye out—the Kappa must be coming from somewhere...)
  • Search the swamps for any Corrupted Holy Sites. (Corrupted Holy Sites are the source of the vile Kappa. They will attack from these sites until you find and destroy them. Be wary of the swamps—the Kappa are amphibious and can traverse both land and water.)
  • Destroy all Corrupted Holy Sites. (Continue finding and destroying Corrupted Holy Sites. The smaller Shrines are less defended and easier to destroy than the larger Temples.)

Spotlight[]

Spotlight: Japanese Myth Units

The Japanese have a large and unique roster of myth units, each with special abilities. Early myth units, such as the Wanyūdō, Kamaitachi, and Jorogumo, deal extra damage in a small area. The Jorogumo also uses an ability to pick up, stab, and hurl enemies away.

Later myth units possess especially powerful abilities—for example, the Raiju shocks and stuns nearby enemies, the Shinigami respawns in a stronger form at the Temple upon death and frightens large armies into fleeing, and the Asura passively damages nearby foes while moving.

Additionally, Wanyūdō, Oni, and Asura are particularly effective against buildings, making them valuable assets during sieges.

Players[]

This section is most likely incomplete and may need expansion. You can help by adding to it.

Player[]

Neutral[]

  • Abe-no-Seimei ( Susanoo): Will grant myth units to the player for free upon destroying a Corrupted Holy Site.

Enemy[]

  • The Kappa Clan ( Susanoo):
  • Kappa ( Susanoo): Consists of the amphibious creatures that attack Abe-no-Seimei's village at the start. They are later periodically summoned from six Corrupted Holy Sites to attack the player. Destroying all of the Corrupted Holy Sites leads to scenario completion.

Strategy[]

This section is most likely incomplete and may need expansion. You can help by adding to it.

Start by clearing out the Kappa in the town in order to gain control of it. The player will then need to build up and take out six shrines that will continually spawn Kappas to attack the player. Right away, head to the corrupted shrine northwest of the base and take it out, followed by the shrine to the south and to the southeast, as those are not within the enemy's base. Each time the player destroys a corrupted shrine, the player will receive a few myth units. The player should also put gates up in the incomplete wall around the base.

If advancing to the Mythic Age, either minor god is viable due to their respective god powers, although Takemikazuchi's Asura myth unit can help take out enemy buildings more easily and tank a lot of damage before falling. Watatsumi, on the other hand, grants the Onmyōdō technology to boost Onmyōji attack and the Shinigami myth unit, which can temporarily scare away enemy units and return as a more powerful form when killed. If the player chooses to mass Onmyōji to destroy both enemy myth units and buildings, Watatsumi should be picked due to his Onmyōdō technology.

Other than that, this scenario is pretty straightforward.
