The Crocodile (Alpha) (named Alligator King before the Definitive Edition) is an animal that appears exclusively in Age of Empires: The Rise of Rome. It is a stronger version of a Crocodile (Alligator before the Definitive Edition) with much more hit points, more attack, and faster speed than an ordinary one. The rate which the meat deteriorates is much less than the ordinary animal, as with all "animal kings". Crocodiles (Alpha) can be summoned in ordinary games when the cheat code "GRANTLINKSPENCE" is typed into the chat box. Alpha Crocodiles are also available in the campaign mode of the game and are available in the Scenario Editor.

Overview

Alpha Crocodiles are much faster than ordinary infantry and can deal as much as 25 damage per strike. Since a Villager can be eliminated in one hit, Alligator Kings provide a negative return on food even if they are outnumbered by 10 to 1. If this creature is encountered within the vicinity of the player's civilization, it is best to leave it alone until having elite ranged units, to kill it instead.
