The Crocodile is an animal that appears in Age of Empires II HD: The African Kingdoms, Age of Mythology, and Age of Empires: Definitive Edition.
Age of Empires
Template:WildlifeDespite the different names, the Crocodile acts exactly like the Alligator. Crocodiles can be used as a food source, however due to their generally being located in small numbers and away from optimal Storage Pit sites, it may not be worth the effort to hunt them. Unlike most animals in the game, they make no sounds whatsoever.
They are aggressive and will attack nearby units (within around 4 cells) even without being provoked. However, as the Crocodile is quite slow, Villagers can easily escape or kite the Crocodile by staying out of its attack range.
There is also a Crocodile version of the Alligator King known as Crocodile (Alpha). Like the original unit, they are a stronger version of a Crocodile, with much more hit points, more attack, and faster speed. Their stats, including their hit points (100) are identical to the Alligator King's.

Age of Empires II
Template:Wildlife
The Crocodile is a wild animal that was first introduced in Age of Empires II HD: The African Kingdoms. It appears on several areas around the map and attacks Villagers and even some military units on sight. To Villagers without the Loom upgrade they are a threat, killing them when they land the first hit (except Magyar Villagers). Anything else will easily kill a Crocodile.
Crocodiles appear on African and some Southeast Asian maps, on land but close to the water and on shallows.

Age of Mythology
Template:WildlifeIn Age of Mythology, the Crocodile is a huntable animal, but also a dangerous predator that will attack any nearby villagers. It is usually found on Egyptian maps.
Egyptian Set worshipers can use their Pharaoh to summon Crocodiles of Set from the Heroic Age. These are useful units in combat, as they have a fairly high attack.
History
โ | Scientific name -- Crocodylus niloticus Size -- 15'+ in length Diet -- fish, large vertebrates such as antelope and hippos, sometimes humans Nile crocodiles are the largest living reptile. They live in fresh or brackish water such as rivers and lakes throughout sub-Saharan Africa. They use a variety of hunting techniques, from corralling fish and stunning terrestrial prey with their tails, ambushing large animals with their jaws and then dragging them into the water to drown. They will even wedge drowning animals under trees or rocks. Crocodiles have difficulty removing bites from their prey, so they perform a "death roll" to use their body weight as leverage to tear off pieces of meat. Like most crocodilians, Nile crocodile females are attentive mothers. They construct large nests a short distance from the water where they lay their eggs, and then guard the nest for two or three months until the young hatch. After they hatch, the mother continues to attend to the young until they are about two years old. They are solitary for most of the rest of their life; large groups of crocodiles gather together around food supplies, but are not herding or schooling in the technical sense. Crocodiles differ from alligators by being larger and venturing into salt water. Although North America supports both alligators and crocodiles, the former are much more common while the American crocodile is endangered.
