Composite Bows is a unique technology available to the Abbasid Dynasty in Age of Empires IV that can be researched at the House of Wisdom (Military Wing upgrade) in the Castle Age. Once researched, it decreases the attack duration of Archers to 1.25 seconds from 1.625 seconds.
Note: The tooltip states that the upgrade increases attack speed by 33%. However, a decrease in attack duration from 1.625 seconds to 1.25 seconds only corresponds to a 30% attack speed increase.
While in Golden Age Tier 2/3, the research speed of this technology is +15%/+20%, respectively. If Preservation of Knowledge has been researched, this technology costs -20%.
Changelog[]
- Originally, Composite Bows was available at the House of Wisdom. With update 8324, it is available at the Archery Range. With update 6.0.878, it is available at the House of Wisdom again.
- Originally, it cost 300 wood, 700 gold and was available in the Imperial Age. With update 6.0.878, it costs 150 wood, 350 gold and is available in the Castle Age.
- Originally, Composite bows was setting the attack duration to 1.12 seconds, which incorrectly was reducing the attack duration by 33%, instead of increasing the attack speed by this amount (this actually corresponds to a 50% attack speed increase). With patch 8.2.218, the time between attacks was increased from 1.12 to 1.25. This corresponds to a 30% attack speed increase.
